Clémentine Bal

Clémentine Bal creates a universe that is both soft, strange, and familiar. Her sculptures, inhabited by rounded figures and enigmatic faces, evoke inner states, fleeting emotions, and presences that are felt more than understood.Working in both volume and bas-relief, she shapes pared-down scenes inspired by childhood, domestic spaces, dreams, and the imaginary. Curtains, windows, hybrid animals, natural or geometric elements form a simple yet evocative visual vocabulary. Her works play with boundaries, between the real and the fantastical, the decorative and the intimate, the naïve and the unsettling.A certain lightness runs through her work, in the pastel colors, the subtle humor, the gaze she brings to fragile or melancholic forms. It coexists with more ambivalent tones, somewhere between tenderness and strangeness.Born in Paris in 1979 and a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Annecy, Clémentine Bal draws inspiration from pop surrealism as much as from sacred imagery, folk art, and animation. Over time, she has developed a singular visual language that invites viewers to reconnect with a more sensitive, intuitive part of themselves.
