Dave Shuten grew up in a small town outside Detroit, Michigan. He showed an early obsession for cars and art, building and painting his first car at the age of 11. Shuten went on to study shop, commercial art, and design after which he became a journeyman toolmaker for General Motors, a job he held for almost 20 years while at the same time building and restoring custom cars at his home shop in his off-hours. Through these builds he gained international recognition as the go-to artist for both original creations and the restorations of historically important custom and movie cars. Shuten's accomplishments have led to five automotive and custom car Hall of Fame inductions, three prestigious painter awards, close to 50 magazine covers and hundreds of magazine articles including Juxtapoz, as well as appearing on multiple TV shows ranging from Car Kings to American Pickers and Jay Leno‘s Garage. In his career, Shuten has worked with some of the most recognized people in the automotive and entertainment industries as well as the fine art world. Ed Rushea, Robert Williams, Suzanne Williams, Sid Wilson, Kelly "RISK" Graval, Sylvester,Stallone, Jeff Dunham, Tommy Lee, Jeff Beck, Joey Lagano, Titmouse Animation Studio, Eric Bauza and Bruce Meyer have all been partners or clients in Shuten's work. Dave has also been a celebrity guest at automotive events in several countries including Japan, England, Italy, Sweden and Finland. His creations have been displayed at the Petersen Automotive Museum, The Henry Ford Museum, The Museum of American Speed and The National Corvette Museum, as well as gracing the lawn of the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours, The Wynn Concours and the Amelia Island Concours. In recent years, Shuten has delved back into his art background to create paintings and sculptures that meld his love and knowledge of pop art and pop culture with the fabrication and graphic skills he uses in automotive work. The result combines the glossy, bright, paintwork and attention to detail that makes Shuten's works such standouts with a fun, but fresh and affectionate take on music, celebrity, and consumer products.
